Item #1

John Jay Memorial Issue

$5 28 pp. 7 1/2 by 11 inches
John Jay was the first national coast to coast ski film
lecturer. He shot the first U.S. rope tow at Woodstock,
Vermontt, in 1939 and kept at it until he shot the early
detachable chairs at Vail in the 1980s.If anyone could
have stood for the rise of alpine skiing in North
America, it was John Jay. Here for the first time, his
entire life story has been set down in print, including a
list of all the John Jay films ever shown, together with
the date. It is a real collector's item.

Item #2

The Winter Sport Of Skeeing by Theodore Johnsen

$10 pp 5 1/2 by 7 1/2 60

This is the first North American book in English on the sport, the second oldest in the world. Published in Portland, Maine in 1905, and written by a cabinet maker turned ski maker. It captures abundantly the charm and nostalgia of the earliest days of North American skiing. The book is an exact reprint of the original with an added introduction and an afterword with the story of Theodore Johnson. There are illustrations of early ski technique and some of the first ski photographs taken in the U.S. There are also ample illustrations of theskis and ski equipment that Johnson was selling. The book is a time machine back to 1900 when skiing was an infant sport. Limited quantity.
