I.S.H.A. Annual Gatherings

Celebrate the Spirit of Skiing!
ISHA SKIING HERITAGE WEEK
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area
March 29 – April 2, 2009

ISHA Skiing Heritage Week features the Mammoth Museum and Beekley Collection, the 2009 International Ski History Congress and epic Eastern Sierra guided skiing on Mammoth Mountain! Enjoy world class historians, entertaining events, passionate skiers, our Mammoth hosts and the Mammoth community, and ISHA camaraderie!

Registration begins Sunday, March 29 at 3:00 at the Mammoth Ski Museum.

Five nights lodging will be at The Village Lodge (Grand Sierra) in double occupancy one-bedroom suites. You will be within steps of the Village Gondola in the heart of the Village with its wide variety of shops, restaurants and activities.

We kick off the week on Sunday with a 6:30 p.m. reception featuring “evening fare” at the Mammoth Ski Museum where you can get your first look at the incredible Beekley International Collection of Skiing Art and Literature.

Monday includes a day of guided skiing, an afternoon on-snow demonstration of vintage and modern skiing, and an après ski get together at the Yodler. The annual ISHA Movers and Shakers event caps off the day.

Tuesday guided skiing at Mammoth will include a hosted on-mountain lunch at Parallax. For those with a competitive streak, we will conduct a Ski Race on Fascination starting at 11:00. The annual Mason Beekley Memorial Dinner will feature a keynote speaker from among the many world-class historians involved in the 2009 International Ski History Congress.

On Wednesday, transportation will be provided to June Mountain, including an on mountain hosted lunch at June Chalet. Dinner is open, giving you a chance to enjoy a unique dining experience with your friends: cross country ski to Rock Creek Lodge; ride a SnoCat to Parallax; gourmet meals at historic lodges such as Tamarack’s, Lake Front Restaurant, Convict Lake, or McGee Creek, and others. Sign-ups for these dinner venues will be available at registration.

Another great day of skiing at Mammoth is one option of many on Thursday. You may choose to go on a snowshoe/fly fishing adventure, engage in a biathlon experience, take a more extensive tour of the Beekley collection, or participate in a nordic, alpine racing, or snowboarding clinic. Apres ski will be at the Mountainside Bar at the Mammoth Mountain Inn. The day will conclude with the ISHA Awards Banquet where we will present this year’s Ullr, Skade, and Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Any of you with an interest in Nordic skiing might want to participate in the Pre-event, a biathlon clinic on Friday afternoon, March 27, and biathlon competition on Saturday March 28 (rifles provided) or the Post-event, the Mammoth Marathon (full and half) on Sunday, April 5.

Throughout the week, international historians will be presenting papers at the 2009 International Ski History Congress. As a Heritage Week attendee, you are welcome to attend these sessions, for a nominal fee, and listen to any of the approximately 50 presentations that will be featured Monday through Thursday.
