Wolfie Lert, 91: Racer, coach,
Filmaker,
Skiwear Importer

Wolfgang Lert, 91, died peacefully at his home in San Francisco on Feb. 13.

After racing for UCLA, Wolfie became the university's first ski coach and made some early Southern California ski films. During WWII he worked in the Office of War Information, and afterwards was editor of Western Skiing, a forerunner of SKI Magazine.

During the 1950s, Lert partnered with Hans Hagemeister to import Bogner skiwear and Meister sweaters. He was an early member and enthusiastic supporter of ISHA, and wrote several significant articles for Skiing Heritage.

Wolfie skied, and attended ISHA Gatherings, until he was 89. We'll miss his good cheer, his delight in life and his endlessly amusing tales.

See the obituary in The Taos News.
